A Future Educator of the Arts
Kyla McClain aka @_artbykayla started her journey in the arts as a young girl who often copied pictures out of books, and then later drawing still life objects. She had no formal classroom training, therefore she practiced in her own time eventually getting better. Kayla went on to study her passion for the arts at Benedict College, where she was able to improve her craft. She is currently a graduate student at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago studying Art Education. Kayla is an artist that is truly involved in the arts within the context of the realities in which she lives. As a future educator of the arts, she believes it is very important to know what is going on and express that through the arts. Although she is an Art Education, her media is painting with acrylic and oil-based paints, and printmaking, using relief printing such as linocuts and woodcuts. She uses these forms to create images of social and political concepts because as an artist she feels it’s important to create art that reflects the times.
She has also created a children's book called “The First Time I Got Pulled Over”.
